• To understand the fundamentals of image interpretation

Remote sensing as a technology, history of remote sensing; electromagnetic energy and remote sensing; Present earth observation satellites and their specifications; Platforms, Sensors and RS data acquisition systems; Earth Resource Satellites; Image pre-processing; Image enhancement and image transformation; Image interpretation and classification; Microwave and thermal remote sensing; Photogrammetry and applications in Himalayan region; Introduction, Definition and concept of GIS; Components of GIS; Database organization; Projection System; Applications of GIS; Digital cartography and Global Positioning System.
